A secret word in the window is one of the cheapest ways I know to get people talking to you. Pick a word, pick a small perk, print the sign. Anyone who walks in and says the word gets the perk.
One short word reads best from the sidewalk.
A set reward everyone gets. Leave it blank to hand-write it on the sign.
Blank leaves a line to write the date in.
Prints on one letter-size page (8.5 x 11). It looks fine on a black-and-white printer too.

House rules for a secret word
- A fixed perk, never a raffle. Everyone who says the word gets the same thing. No drawings, no "chance to win."
- No purchase needed for the word. Saying the word shouldn't depend on buying something first.
- Your own window only. Tape it inside your shop window or door. Not on poles, sidewalks or other people's property.
How to use it
- Fill in your shop name, the word and the perk. The preview updates as you type.
- Tap Print the sign. In the print screen, choose letter size and turn off headers and footers if your browser adds them.
- Tape it up facing the street, at eye level.
- Copy the Google post and add it as an update on your Google Business Profile, so people who look you up see it too.
- Tell your staff the word and the perk before the sign goes up.
- Change the word every week or two so it stays fun.
