Why isn't my shop showing on Google Maps?

By Sam Miklosko · November 2, 2026

I hear this question a lot from local owners. Usually it comes down to one of a few things, and most can be checked in a few minutes.

1. The listing isn't verified yet

A new or unclaimed listing often won't show in Maps, or shows with less detail. Search your business name on Google. If you see "Own this business?" or "Claim this business," it isn't verified. Claim it and finish whichever verification Google offers (a video, a phone or text code, or a postcard).

2. You're a service-area business, so there's no pin

If you go to customers (plumbers, HVAC, roofers, landscapers) and hid your address, Google won't drop a pin on the map. That's normal. You'll still show in Maps searches, but only in the area you listed. Check that your service area covers the towns you actually work in, like Henderson, Boulder City and Las Vegas.

3. The customer is too far away

Google leans heavily on distance. A shop in Henderson usually won't show for someone searching from the northwest valley, even if the listing is perfect. That isn't something you can fix with settings.

4. Your primary category doesn't match what people search

If you're listed as "Contractor" but people search "AC repair," Google may not connect the two. Pick a specific primary category that fits your main work, then add a few secondary categories for the rest.

5. The listing is suspended or has a duplicate

Log in to your Business Profile. A suspension shows a notice at the top. Duplicates happen when an old listing from a former address or owner is still out there. Report the duplicate from its Maps page with "Suggest an edit" and "Close or remove."

6. Something on the listing breaks Google's rules

Common ones: extra keywords stuffed into the business name ("Joe's Plumbing Best Las Vegas Plumber"), a P.O. box or virtual office as the address, or a phone number that forwards somewhere odd. These can quietly push you down or get the listing suspended.

7. It's thin compared with nearby shops

When everything else is fine, Google tends to show listings that are complete and active: hours, photos, services, a description, recent reviews with owner replies. A listing with two photos and no hours has a hard time next to one that's filled in.

A quick test

Search your trade and town on your phone (for example "water heater repair Henderson") while standing at your shop. If you show up there but not across town, distance is most of the story. If you don't show up even nearby, start with steps 1, 4 and 5.
